MEDITERRANEAN FRIDAYS VI: STARRY NIGHT IN A RESTAURANT OF THE GREEK ISLAND OF SYMI

The transformation of this sponge factory into the little LOS bistro comes by the hand of the New Yorker Input Creative Studio and it is located in the Greek island of Symi, about 40 kilometres north of Rhodes. The design is full of references to the previous use of the building, from the sponge shape of the concrete bar to the heterogeneous layout of the lights above it.

And these lights are the ones which capture the whole attention of the room, imitating metaphorically the summer starry sky of the island. The other focus of the space is the three-coloured tiled floor that adds flair and humor to the design and establishes the polychromy for the rest of decorations.

La transformación de esta fábrica de esponjas en el pequeño restaurante LOS viene de la mano de estudio neoyorquino Input Creative Studio y está situada en la isla griega de Symi, a unos 40 kilómetros al norte de la isla de Rodas. El diseño está cargado de referencias al antiguo uso del edificio, desde la forma de esponja de la barra de hormigón hasta la disposición heterogénea de las luminarias sobre ella.

Y son éstas las que captan las miradas de toda la habitación, imitando metafóricamente al cielo veraniego lleno de estrellas sobre la isla. El otro protagonista del espacio es el suelo de baldosas tricolor, que pone el punto divertido al diseño y establece la policromía del resto de elementos decorativos.
