NOMA LAB, THE NORDIC EXPERIMENTARIUM

GXN studio has been in charge of the renovation of  NOMA's gastronomic laboratory (Copenhagen), top number 1 on The World's 50 Best Restaurants ranking. The "experimentarium" is located in an old wharehouse and, because it is a protected building, the project had to preserved floors and walls. It has been created a "Three dimensional Puzzle", a set of furniture that compartmentalizes the space in various areas for the different demanded uses. The curious thing about the project has been its development: everything has been designed with a "living software", specially created for the occasion, which has allowed to produce and assembly about 5000 pieces without any carpenters' help.

Apart from its fresh, elegant and innovative appearance, which I like the most of NOMA Lab is its "total project" condition.The studio members could be involved from the first sketches to the furniture's final assembly. As an architect, it seems to me to be an unique handcraft experience that with no doubt I would love to live someday.

El estudio GXN ha sido el encargado de la renovación del laboratorio gastronómico de NOMA (Copenhague), el restaurante número 1 en el ranking de The World's 50 Best Restaurants. El "experimentarium" se sitúa en un antiguo almacén y, al ser este un edificio protegido, todo el proyecto ha tenido que preservar suelos y paredes. De esta forma se ha creado el "Puzzle tridimensional", un conjunto de mobiliario que compartimenta el espacio en varias áreas para los distintos usos requeridos. Lo curioso del proyecto ha sido su desarrollo:  todo se ha realizado mediante un software especialmente creado para la ocasión que ha permitido producir y ensamblar unas 5000 piezas sin ayuda carpinteros.

Aparte de su apariencia fresca, elegante e innovadora, lo que más me gusta de NOMA Lab es su condición de "proyecto total'. Los miembros del estudio han podido participar desde los primeros bocetos hasta el montaje final del los muebles. Como arquitecta me parece una experiencia artesanal única que sin duda me encantaría poder vivir algún día.
